Wendl and Lung build their pianos in China. We have been at pains to assess the many mass produced Chinese makes of pianos and conclude that W and L currently offer the best value for money in this category. They are slightly more expensive than some better known names from the Far East but disproportionately better than competitor makes on which more money is spent on advertising than attending to the demands of producing a good instrument. W and L are in the forefront of innovation.They plan to introduce a form of grand simulation action on their upright range during 2008. We expect this to be a big improvement on all other traditional upright actions though it is unlikely to match the extreme refinement of the Steingraeber SFM action for uprights. The sound of the larger grands challenges some European build instruments. We expect W and L pianos to be amongst the first from China that will climb into higher ranking in Larry Fine's Piano Book. From April W and L offer a new large (7 foot 6inch) grand with a simple bridge agraffe system. We have played the prototype of this piano and rate it best amongst any competition in its price range.
